Case study B2B platform

How Provis built ProvisCommerce, an ordering platform and apps for Indian wholesale.

ProvisCommerce is Provis's own product: shops order from their suppliers, and field salesmen take orders at the shop, all at the same prices, stock and GST. Provis built all of it: the platform, the retailer app, the Sales Flow salesman app and the website.

At a glance

  1. Problem

Indian wholesale needs negotiated prices, GST, order splits and salesmen on the road. The older systems did not calculate GST, had checkout written several times and could show one seller's data to another.

  2. Solution

A multi-seller ordering platform built from scratch, with a retailer app and Sales Flow, an app for field salesmen, on one set of prices, stock and tax.

  3. Result

A platform running enterprise sites on proviscommerce.com, a retailer app, Sales Flow on Google Play, a support chat assistant and a marketing website.

The situation

Wholesale ordering was slow to run and easy to get wrong.

ProvisCommerce is sold to Indian wholesalers and distributors. Their customers are shops, and their own field salesmen. It was built to replace an older wholesale ordering system that served stationery wholesale.

This is how the business ran on that older system.

How an order ran on the older system

  1. Shop signs inwith a phone number and a 4-digit code
  2. Price worked outfrom customer type, bulk bands, route and an MRP cap
  3. Order splitwhat is in stock ships, the rest waits for the seller
  4. Checkoutwritten 5 times, with a fee on only 1 of them
  5. Taxnever calculated

No GST was calculated, checkout existed in 5 copies, and one seller's data could show up for another.

The problems, and what fixed each

Four problems had to be fixed properly, not covered up.

These are four problems Provis found in wholesale ordering and while building, and what fixed each.

  1. No GST on any order

The older system never calculated tax. After the first rebuild the imported catalogue still sold at zero GST: 1,815 of 1,835 products had no tax category, because two of the three tax slabs were never added. A test order came out with no GST on paper taxed at 12%.

What Provis builtA tax module with place of supply

GST is worked out as CGST and SGST or IGST, with rounding per invoice and rates that keep their versions. The place of supply comes from the retailer's GSTIN state, or the main address state if there is no GSTIN, never the seller's state. The missing slabs (12%, 18% and 5%) were added, and a product that cannot be taxed is not offered for sale.

  2. One seller could see another seller's data

In the older system, filters failed open and private cart offers showed to every retailer. In the new build, the first test run passed while proving nothing, because it ran as a database superuser, which skips the protection. Then QA ran with every policy off.

What Provis builtIsolation inside the database

Tables that hold seller data use forced row-level security, and the app connects as a role that cannot skip it. The seller is set per transaction, and with no seller set a query returns no rows, not every row. A separate test suite checks that access is denied, and each enterprise's health check reports that the protection is on.

  3. Checkout written five times, and no basket across sellers

The older checkout existed in 5 copies and charged the convenience fee on only 1. In the new build, carts existed per seller, but nothing could check out across sellers.

What Provis builtOne pricing and checkout service

The API has one basket and one checkout that places one order per seller. Each seller's part runs on its own, so if one seller fails only that order is undone. One retry key from the app becomes one key per seller, so a retry replays the same orders instead of making new ones.

  4. Field salesmen had no app

The older system had a salesman record with one use and no sign-in.

What Provis builtSales Flow, an app for the field

A salesman gets a day's beat, shops by territory, check-in and check-out, ordering at each shop's own price, outstanding amounts by age, a "My day" summary, expenses, maps and returns. The seller sets each salesman's rights, such as a discount cap, and the platform enforces them. Location is read only at check-in, never in the background, and a weak GPS signal never blocks an order.

How the work ran

Built in four phases, from the platform core to the support assistant.

  1. Phase 1, September 2026, week 1Platform foundation, catalogue, inventory, pricing, routes, GST, cart, checkout, orders and payments, offers, retailers and sellers; retailer app started
  2. Phase 2, September 2026, weeks 2 and 3Storefront, admin panel and seller portal, retailer API, QA and a recorded demo
  3. Phase 3, September 2026, weeks 3 and 4Two enterprises deployed with one database each, the website rebuilt for B2B, the churn and MCP service, Sales Flow started
  4. Phase 4, October 2026Sales Flow phases 2 and 3 and its release on Google Play, the support assistant, an admin-driven home screen and festive themes for the sales app
  • What was built: a Laravel platform with an admin panel, a seller portal and a storefront, plus a retailer app and the Sales Flow app.

    Laravel
  • Payments: one platform account, with head office settling to sellers.

    Razorpay
  • Hosting: Docker Compose on AWS, with one database, bucket and app key for each enterprise.

    AWS
  • Hardest part: making seller isolation real and proving it, with a live health check on each enterprise.

AI in ProvisCommerce:

AI is a supporting feature, never in the money path.

Mitra, the support assistant in the retailer app, drafts answers about orders, stock and delivery, and hands over to a person when the records cannot answer. The website calls it a pilot, off by default.

The assistant never quotes a price. A later switch, off by default, lets it repeat a shop's own price exactly as given.

An MCP server lets head office ask Claude about one enterprise's data. The website says it is in development.

After launch

Provis is still working on it.

The latest work at the time of writing is from 22 October 2026, on the sales app's admin-driven home screen and live theming.

Because ProvisCommerce is Provis's own product, the team that built it also runs it.

Provis has delivered 200+ projects since 2012, with a team of 25+ engineers, designers, QA and project leads.

Every Provis build comes with 24/7 monitoring and support after launch.

How every Provis project runs

  • One project leadyour single point of contact
  • A written weekly update and a demoof what was built that week
  • A staging link and your repoyou see the work as it is built; the code goes straight into your repo
  • QA before launchour QA team tests every feature
  • Yours from day onecode repo, cloud account and domain in your company's name; our team joins as collaborators, and you can remove access at any time
