How Provis built an interactive video tool for Xpectum, and worked on its learning portal.
Xpectum sells distance courses in Sweden. Provis built a tool that puts popups and extra information on educational videos, and worked on a separate learning portal.
- Interactive video tool
- Learning portal (LMS)
A video tool that shows help right where the learner looks.
- Timed popups
- at the right moment
- A popup appears at the point in the video where the course wants it, so learners see it when it helps
- Extra information
- while the video plays
- Notes show in a corner of the video, so learners do not have to look elsewhere
- Your own layout
- beside the video
- The school can choose how information is laid out next to the video

A distance-learning business with two separate projects.
Xpectum AB teaches distance vocational courses, in economics and accounting, law and marketing. Its About page says it has produced distance courses since 1996, and that all teaching is remote with tutor support.
Provis did two separate pieces of work for it. The first is an interactive video tool. The second is work on its learning portal (LMS). This page keeps the two apart.
How an online course usually teaches with video
- A video lessonthe learner presses play
- Notes elsewhereextra information sits on another page
- Learner looks awayand loses the thread of the video
- Back to the videotrying to find the place again
A typical flow for businesses like this, not a record of this client.

Problems Provis often sees in projects like this, and how it fixes them.
-
Help appears away from the video
When notes and links sit on another page, learners look away and lose their place.
What Provis builtPopups and notes on the video itselfInformation shows on the video at the moment it matters, so the learner never has to leave it.
-
Every course needs a different layout
A fixed page layout suits some lessons and not others.
What Provis builtA layout the school can changeThe space beside the video can be arranged to suit each course, without rebuilding the page.

Learning tools drift apart
A video tool and a learning portal built apart can feel like two products.
How Provis approaches itOne approach for bothProvis's usual aim is tools that feel like one product, with the same look and one way to sign in.
A video tool, and a learning portal.
- The interactive video toolShows a popup at a chosen point in a video, shows information in a corner of the video, makes extra information visible during playback, and lets the presentation beside the video be customised. Versions were built in Vue and in React.
- The learning portal (LMS)Work on Xpectum's learning portal, kept separate from the video tool.
