Case study Web app development

How Provis built My Daily Polls, a polling platform where users create polls and others respond.

My Daily Polls is a small social-network-style platform for collecting public opinion on topics such as politics and elections. Users have accounts, create polls, respond and give feedback, and are notified when new polls are published. Provis built it.

The situation

A platform for gathering public opinion.

My Daily Polls needed to let users create polls, collect responses and gather opinions on topics such as politics and elections.

It works like a small social network built around polls. Users have accounts and a user base. Anyone with an account can create a poll, and others respond and give feedback. When a new poll is published, the relevant users are notified, and the responses are collected so opinion can be analysed.

How an online poll usually runs without a platform

  1. A question is postedon a page or in a group
  2. Answersare scattered across comments
  3. People who careare never told a new poll is up
  4. Countingis done by hand

A typical flow for businesses like this, not a record of this client.

Common problems, and how Provis fixes them

What usually slows a polling platform down

Problems Provis often sees in projects like this, and how it fixes them.

  1. Few people take part

If voting takes many steps, most visitors leave before they answer.

    How Provis approaches itOne-tap voting

A poll shows its answers on one screen, and a vote is a single tap.

  2. People miss new polls

Without a nudge, users forget to come back.

How Provis approaches itAlerts for the right users

When a poll is published, the users it matters to are told.

  3. Answers are hard to read

A pile of raw responses does not tell anyone what people think.

How Provis approaches itResults collected in one place

Responses and feedback are gathered for each poll, so opinion can be looked at together.

How the work ran

How Provis runs a platform project

  1. Discovery and auditProvis looks at what exists today, and agrees with you what to fix or build first
  2. Build or fixThe work is done in small pieces you can see and review as they land
  3. Test and launchEverything is checked on phones and desktops, and on real data, before it goes live
  4. SupportAfter launch Provis monitors, fixes and improves, around the clock
  • Plan the journey: agree what a user does first: sign up, vote, ask a question, and what they are told.

  • Build in small pieces: accounts, polls, answers and alerts are built and shown to you one at a time.

  • Test at load: a poll can bring many people at once, so the platform is tested for busy moments.

Our approach:

Make the first vote effortless.

A platform grows when taking part is easy, so Provis starts from the user's first tap.

Every Provis build comes with 24/7 monitoring and support after launch.
